In The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, the main characters Percy, Annabeth and Grover go on an adventure to get Zeus’ lightning bolt back. Along the way, they meet Ares the god of war who helps them reach the underworld to see Hades because they think he has the lightning bolt. But, what they find out in the underworld could get them killed. The book has a few slow parts that always end in an action scene. I kept reading because of the cover picture which is a lightning bolt going through the Empire State building and Percy standing in water holding a sword and an animal horn. I wanted to know why he was standing there and what the lightning had to do with the book. This book would interest someone who likes action and adventure stories.

  6. Read it last year. Although the first book isn't my absolute favorite, I would still recommend the series because it gets better in the next books.

Great review! (might want to include a quote though).
